Thanks a Brunch: Hideaway Kitchen & Bar

Anyone who knows me AT ALL knows my breakfast palate typically consists of tacos and pretty much nothing else. I'm just not normally a big breakfast eater, so that's why I typically gravitate towards brunch whenever I do decide to leave the house for the first meal of the day. But, when I see the words "peach pie pancakes" on a brunch menu, you better believe my curiosity is gonna be piqued! So, my boyfriend and I headed down south to check out Hideaway Kitchen & Bar.

First of all, the place is definitely named appropriately. It's tucked to the side of a Ramada Inn south of Ben White Boulevard in what used to be a strip center with a Subway and a Chinese food joint. You definitely wouldn't assume that this is where brunch dreams are made of--but you should never judge a book by its cover, no?

My boyfriend and I bring our appetite, so we order a TON of food. I immediately gravitate towards the chili cheese fries Benedict but try to not be a huge fat fatty for like two seconds. So, I totally go the healthy route by ordering the avocado toast Benedict...and the aforementioned peach pie pancakes. And a bloody mary--cause, brunch. The boyfriend orders a healthy-ish veggie hash (with a side of a single waffle) and a cup of coffee.

The brunch cocktail menu is pretty robust, with several bloody options to choose from, but I go classic and enjoy every peppery sip of the tomato-y beverage...until the chef comes to say hello and insists on making me a Mad Dog 20-20 Orange Julius mimosa with a Miller High Life. It's...not gross. In fact, it's pretty darn refreshing, and I hate myself just a little bit for liking the white trash libation (that's not a knock on white trash, y'all, I will proudly fly my white trash flag high!).

The brunch is delicious. My avocado Benedict is on some of the fluffiest sourdough toast ever with perfectly cooked poached eggs. But, it's the peach pie pancakes that are truly the star of the meal. Three HUGE and pillowy pancakes are topped with macerated peaches, a vanilla cream, peach butter, and streusel. They're not TOO sweet, which is incredible given its ingredients, and the peach flavor is powerful without being too overwhelming. If you like peaches and pancakes, this is the dish for you!
